Background to Rede Hosiery

Rede is recognised among the leading companies in the Italian hosiery industry. It was founded by Mario Re Depaolini in Parabiago in 1938 staring with the exclusive production of pantyhose. In the 1950's, Rede was among the first Italian companies to take the form of an innovative specialising in silk and cotton tights. In the years after World War II, the production was expanded to include men's and children's socks. With the introduction of modern looms during these years and the establishment of the first internal training school for hosiery manufacturers, production stretched to wool and nylon, always preserving the qualitative excellence. In the '60's Rede was technologically advanced with 60 Bentley looms driven by clockwork which could weave nylon yarn. With the demise of the founder in 1964, Carla Musazzi became the President of the Board of Directors of the company which already employed about 700 workers and produced over 5000 stockings every day. During this time, the employment of new fibres, such as stretch-nylon, were successfully experimented in the manufacturing of socks and tights.

In the '80's Rede started to manufacture Lycra pantyhose. Between the '90's and 2000, the company diversified its products by manufacturing tights for its retail trade and men's socks designed with both classic and trendy consumers in mind. It also started the production and promotion of underwear, t-shirts and men's and women's swimwear.
