Inspection and Mending

During the time that the yarn has been changed gradually by various processes from a length of “thread on a bobbin” to a linked, seamed and completed stocking, it is quite possible that flaws have crept into the workmanship or that damage has been sustained by careless handling.

Every stocking factory has a large Inspection department and also a Mending department where the correctors and clippers perfect the condition of the stockings.

This does not indicate that the stockings are made without care nor of inferior materials. The speed and complexity of multi-unit fully-fashioned knitting machines and the delicacy of the yarns employed, is such that in spite of every precaution, occasional stitches are inevitably dropped and yarns may vary
